Google Closes Its Acquisition of DoubleClick

March 12, 2008 | Filed under: Google, Internet — admin @ 2:07 am

Yesterday, Google Inc. announced that it has completed its acquisition of DoubleClick, a company that offers online ad serving and management technology to advertisers, web publishers and ad agencies.

Eric Schmidt, Google’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We are thrilled that our acquisition of DoubleClick has closed. With DoubleClick, Google now has the leading display ad platform, which will enable us to rapidly bring to market advances in technology and infrastructure that will dramatically improve the effectiveness, measurability and performance of digital media for publishers, advertisers and agencies, while improving the relevance of advertising for users.”

Some concerns raised in regard to the performance of digital media and the relevance of internet advertising… Reminds me of Gmail and the ads…

Well… it’s getting scarier eh, how your personal information is exchanged by invisible hands in invisible medium?

But maybe it’s the price we have to pay for those technologies they’re spoiling us.

And I might be guilty too :D

Shylock Adsense Wordpress Plugin

March 11, 2008 | Filed under: Google Adsense, Script, Wordpress — admin @ 6:40 pm

Shylock Adsense is a WordPress plugin that allows you to insert Adsense ads on your blog without modifying the template. More then that, you can set it up to show different Adsense ads for articles older then X days (x is the number of days you decide).

For example, you can insert a 468×60 ad at the bottom of a new article, and once that article turns 7 days old it will have a 336×280 ad blended with the text from the beginning of that article.

Quick Look on CJ Advertisers

So I checked Commission Junction advertiser list (with the following filter on: Language=All and Targeted Area=USA), and found out interesting fact that out of 1000 result it returned, the first 204 advertisers were NEW.

On the other side, advertiser/merchant with the highest 7 Day EPC was DebtBuster ($1397), which offered personal loans services. The second and third place were, respectively, occupied by ExpressCopy ($542) and Yahoo Seacrh Marketing ($421).

Then there were Capital One UK Credit Card ($363), GoToMeeting/GoToWebinar ($280), SilverJet Air ($265), Nationwide Personal Insurance ($265), Time Warner Cable Internet Service Provider ($263).

Wonder does this imply anything of the current economic state…

http://www.mikeindustries.com/sifr

sIFR (Scalable Inman Flash Replacement) is a method "to insert rich typography into web pages without sacrificing accessibility, search engine friendliness, or markup semantics". It’s been designed, scripted, tested, and debugged by Mike Davidson and Mark Wubben.

"sIFR is meant to replace short passages of plain browser text with text rendered in your typeface of choice, regardless of whether or not your users have that font installed on their systems. It accomplishes this by using a combination of javascript, CSS, and Flash."
